Excellent dental care has been my experience on every visit to this practice for 15 years! The office staff is always friendly and their scheduling indicates that they are respectful of their patients' time as I never have to wait more than a couple of minutes. The office is comfortable, convenient, and parking is plentiful. Dr. Carlson and his assistant were so professional, working efficiently and best of all, causing no pain! I am pleased to recommend this dental practice without reservation!

7-16-2024- I had appointment today and the girls up front are absolutely the best!! So easy to work with and just a pleasure!! Shareka took care of my cleaning and she is just great!! Very knowledable, very professional but friendly, so very nice and easy to talk to :). Everyone just makes you feel so comfortable in the office!! And Dr Carlson .. well he is just wonderful!! In todays time you almost feel like it’s hard to trust what people tell you, like a dog eat dog .. I do not feel like that at this dentist office!! Absolutely amazing people here! I read through hours of reviews on dentists after moving to a new state and I am so glad that I did. They are so above and beyond and take the time to explain everything to the kids and make them feel so comfortable. My youngest went in, so shy and apprehensive because of past dental experiences and she left excited about her next cleaning and even getting a filling. Dr Carlson is so great! So were Stephanie and Emily. The ladies at the front were all so so sweet, as well. I was truly blown away with how great everything was. It was so clean and the dentist was clearly looking to help each individual, not see how much money he could make off of you. So happy with them. My family wont go anywhere else.

Another update 6/18/24 Nothing to add, really, just confirmation of all the other reviews. I had the last stage of an implant completed - Dr. Carlson 'installed' the crown into the implant. As usual, he explained everything carefully, was very methodical, and wanted to ensure my comfort every step of the way. Then, at 7:45 PM, he checked on me to make sure everything was okay. Who does that these days? Maybe during business hours, but in the middle of the evening? Awesome. I really appreciated that. If you live in or near Tuscaloosa and need a dentist, look no further than Tuscaloosa General Dentistry, for Dr. John Carlson and his amazing team. Updated 6/19/23. An unscheduled appointment to address a concern of mine. Dr. Carlson has a 5 star rating only because 6 star ratings aren’t an option. Best dentist - and practice - I’ve ever had the privilege to go to. I highly recommend them to anyone, without reservation. From the friendly front desk staff, to the hygienists, to Dr. Carlson - just a first rate dental practice that always puts the comfort of the patient first. On top of that, they manage their day well and are always on time. So many service providers could take lessons from Dr. Carlson and his awesome team! Updated 2/28/2022. I could post the same review over and over. they are just the best. Get you in on time, take care of business, get you on your way. they don't waste my time. But they take great care of me. As long as I live in Tuscaloosa, I'll keep coming back. I've been a fan as long as I've been a patient. This is a dentist that you don't mind visiting. Holly, my hygienist, is awesome - as are all the hygienists. The front desk ladies are kind and attentive. Dr. Carlson is a wonderful dentist. They take great care to ensure their patients are comfortable, and during all this COVID nonsense, they are going out of their way to protect their patients and themselves. I'm a fan. — Update- 11/16/2021. I had a minor problem with my upper molar, left side, but I didn’t want to neglect it with the holidays only days away. Didn’t want to wait and have it develop into something. I called Dr. Carlson’s office and they said they could see me at 4:30 - same day. Then, got a text at 10:22 AM saying that if I could come now they could see me. I headed straight over, and had almost no wait, and they took care of me. I tell you, Dr. Carlson and his team make up the best dentistry practice I’ve ever dealt with. It’s actually a JOY to visit the dentist. Run, don’t walk, to Tuscaloosa General Dentistry and let them take care of you. You won’t regret it.

January 2018, excellent care, great explanation of subtle features of an x-ray showing cause of pain. Provided me with a prescription just in case the pain gets more severe before I can have treatment. I am moving to another state, so regretfully will need to find another dentist. Sure hate that part of my move. June 2017 follow up: Excellent care in every way. Hollie is great cleaning the teeth. Needed a filling, and Dr. Carlson was able to work it in the same day, saving me a drive from out of town. December 2016 Follow up: Dental care is an enjoyable experience with these folks. Excellent care and friendly people = wonderful experience. Five stars are not enough! I became a new patient because of a fractured crown, because of the many favorable reviews for Dr. Carlson, and because they were able to work me in the same day. So many things about the experience were exceptional beyond expectations. An important maker of quality in professional services, in which Dr. Carlson excels, is in communications with patients. He took the time to sketch out the reason my dental crown fractured as it did, giving me confidence about his insight into the process. He also mentioned that a replacement crown could be made with stronger material and furthermore thicker at the site of the fracture. He also continued to explain what was going on inside my mouth as the temporary mold was made, old crown removed, temporary one fitted, etc. This showed courtesy and consideration of the patient experience. Modern dental procedures are expected to be painless, which was certainly true in this case. I’ll reluctantly bring up the topic of a novocain injection, just to mention that I did not realize that was happening. (Dr. Carlson did not mention this was coming, probably a wise omission!) In the interest of not giving a “spoiler alert” I will not describe the cute diversion that took away my attention and prevented any anticipatory reaction. Yet another indication of consideration for patients executed superbly. The office staff is friendly and efficient. The chair even delivers a gentle back massage, helping to mentally relax. Although my appointment was at the end of the day, Dr. Carlson and Haleigh worked late well after the regular closing time and did not rush the procedure at all. When I left the whole parking lot serving the nearby professional offices was almost completely empty. I am not affiliated or related in any way with Dr. Carlson or anyone in his office, and met everyone there for the first time on my first visit there. I am grateful to the others who have posted favorable reviews that helped me find such exceptionally excellent service!

If you need a new dentist, this is the place to go. Super friendly environment. The exam chairs are super comfortable, the outside view through the window is relaxing, and the office cleaniness is superb. This was my first time meeting Mrs. Stephanie for my cleaning and she was so sweet. Dr. Carlson and Marianna were awesome throughout my procedure. They asked if I was okay and comfortable frequently. Dr. Carlson is awesome at giving the numbing injections for those who are nervous about that- you don't even feel it! Since I was a kid, I have always absolutely despised going to the dentist. But, after my first visit (which was just yesterday) with Dr. Carlson, I can tell that I'm not going to hate going to the dentist anymore! The front desk staff put me at ease as soon as I walked in. Everyone was so welcoming and pleasant. The dental hygienist that assisted me with my xrays was a sweetheart. Both Dr. Carlson and his staff were very courteous and professional, and the price estimate that I received was much more reasonable than I had expected. Update 7/28/15: new dental work in place, and a total success. During the entire process, Dr. Carlson and staff were not critical in the least about my past dental negligence, opting instead to place 100% of their focus on what could be done going forward, and not only from a cosmetic standpoint, but also from a proper maintenance perspective. I cannot recommend them highly enough! Because of their attention to detail, I now feel confident in smiling widely again! And I have not done that in a very long time. :-D

I always leave with a brighter smile because my teeth are cleaned to perfection (best hygienist in town!) and I never have to wait for my appointment because they don't overbook! I wish all my medical visits were as cautionary (Dr. Carlson is always looking forward to maintaining a healthy mouth!), timely and courteous as what Dr. Carlson and his staff provide. Likewise, the office staff always greets me arriving/exiting like a family member with genuine friendliness.
